When I was a boy, I met a girl.
She didn’t know it then, but…
She changed me.
Now…..I am a man.
A man who is broken by the stories of the women who come to me.
They are my birds with broken wings.
I help them heal, help them to make them strong, so they can fly free.
Lark changed me. Loved Me. Made Me Strong.
With her, I am free.
To the girl of the past.
To the girl of my present.
And, the girl of my future.

Instantaneously from page one, J.B. Hartnett creates one incredibly enigmatic character within Nico. I am in two minds with him, even as I sit here writing this review. We are presented with this gorgeously beautiful man who holds such empathy and determination towards helping women in need and the dichotomy of his character is he is a complete womaniser, breaking the hearts of women who want nothing more than to be the one to break down the concrete walls that surround his carefully enclosed heart. But I still love him nonetheless.
Initially I truly thought I would have loved to have met Lark a little earlier on within the novel and watch her relationship with Nico develop a little more from the very beginning. However, by the end of this incredibly dark and at times brutally heartbreaking book, I realised that once again J.B. Hartnett knows how to write and weave together the tale of one incredible love story – one that is constructed perfectly and deliberately. It is not only about the deep impactful sensuality between two people, but the unrelenting bond that ties two people together over time and signifies the power and healing that ensues with love. Yep. This book made me completely love struck and sappy. And I loved every minute of it.
This is a highly emotional read that left me in sobbing tears at times and I utterly adored these characters. Nico and Lark are such a phenomenal pair together. I truly cannot recommend you read this novel highly enough.

“Nico…” she begged.
“What is it, babe?” In that moment, I was a tease. I was going to make sure I took this bad fuckin’ day and turn it into something she would remember happily.
“You know what I want,” she moaned.
“Don’t move.” I walked away, into the kitchen and dug into one of the bags. The store fuckin’ got me, what could I say. I was gonna barbeque in style next summer. But one thing my kitchen needed was a new spatula. Nice rubber handle, strong, and wide, flat, heatproof silicon…perfect for what I wanted. I came back and rubbed over her left cheek, pulled away for that perfect first contact and…

Julie is obsessed with pi…the equation(and the food). She’s allergic to cats and cantaloupe and hates mushrooms…so if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure. She currently lives with her own romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.
