Indigo is a twenty-four year old woman running from a horrific and incredibly brutal past – a past that is slowly resurfacing and threatens to ruin any hopes she has for her future. While trying to escape she boards a Yacht with her best friend, and they set sail towards her new life. All is smooth sailing until a tragic accident occurs and Indie faces a new fight on her hands against a boat full of pirates. Yet again is it the fight to survive that drives this strong character to form such fierce resistance, making her an admirable heroine.
The story Bella Jewel sets up for the reader is much more raw and grittier than her previous works. The heroine and hero absolutely despise one another, yet there is this pure chemistry that fluctuates between Indigo and Hendrix constantly shifting from lust to loathing. I must admit, while the author has created yet another delectable alpha male of the sea, he is one of the most heartbreakingly cruel and brutal men I have read. Yes, yes there are some incredibly beautiful and tender moments that these characters share as their journey evolves, but he did not start of well in my book, even though he may have captured me in the end!
This is a very passionate and heartbreaking novel set amidst the backdrop of the chaotic and unpredictable sea – a perfect and poignant metaphor to these character’s lives and how they each play a significant part in the intersecting of their futures. While I truly loved so many elements of this book, and fell deeply for the lust, passion and raw sexiness that Hendrix exudes, I would have loved a little more detail about the development of Indigo and Hendrix’s relationship and where these characters were left after the very climactic plot twist.
Despite this, Enslaved By The Ocean is a highly entertaining read that is fantastically constructed. It will keep you on your toes till the very end and set your pulse alight with the raw sexiness that can only be found in a Bella Jewel Novel. One thing is for sure – I love the striking precedence Bella has set up for the next instalment. I cannot wait to read what is next in Where Darkness Lies (Criminals Of The Ocean #2) coming in February 2014.

“Stand up, this will be easier if you do,” he orders. He stands, taking me with him, and I lose my balance when I accidentally try to lift the wrong foot. Hendrix reaches out, taking my shoulder and goes to take a step forward to steady me, only to realize he’s wrapped the rope around his ankle, and is now tangled too. As if in slow motion, we topple backwards. I scream, and land with a thump on the ground as the ropes surround me. Hendrix lands over me, but manages to put his hand down to stop me taking the force of his body. He’s pressing into me in places he really shouldn’t be.
“Fuck,” he curses, tugging his hand to try and untangle it.
“How the hell did you get tangled too?” I cry out, squirming.
“Stop fuckin’ squirming like that,” he orders, and I stop as soon as I realize why he’s asked me to. He’s hard. My God, he’s hard.
“I’m fuckin’ hard because you’re squirming against me. I’m a man. Get over it.”
