Lili Porter is a 27 year old young woman, who has suffered greatly due horribly detrimental events. Moving to Philadelphia, she hopes a fresh start in a new city will help her leave the scars of her past behind. Working as a case manager at Philadelphia Hospital, Lili’s orderly life is completely turned upside down by the new Chief of Neurosurgery, Chase Colton. This darkly brooding, yet stunningly gorgeous man sets her pulse on fire, and the instant attraction that she feels for him slowly begins to consume Lili and awaken feelings she thought she could never feel again.

Chase Colton is a man tormented by the gut-wrenching devastation and guilt he carries. Consumed by the need and fierce drive to help people, he is a passionate, focused and incredibly dominating neurosurgeon. He is also slowly losing his mind with the attraction and deep emotions this young case manager instigates within him. As their resolve to keep away from one another slowly begins to waver, Lili and Chase are taken on an incredibly tumultuous journey, where two very broken individuals learn the art of love and healing.

Beautifully Awake throws you on an emotional and tumultuous journey. This is such a touching and emotional story as well as a story about the forgiveness of one’s self and learning the healing qualities of love. Written primarily in Lili’s perspective the authors allow you to delve deeply into her character, but it is the way in which Chase’s perspective was so beautifully entwined within the story at two incredibly perfect moments within the book that made this story whole.

I cannot express how much I adored Lily’s character. Lili is a young woman who has suffered at the hands of horrible circumstances and is just merely attempting to live a simplistic life, void of the troubles love can cause. She is witty, intelligent and exudes such strength and passion in helping others. My heart broke for her at times. I loved the healing power she provided for Chase and the way that these two very broken individuals craved to heal each other’s wounds.

One word. Chase. Oh, what have you done Riley Mackenzie? You have utterly ruined me by creating one of the most intense and devastatingly sexy men. Chase Colton is an enigmatic man, tall, dark and dangerously sexy. He is a 36 year old neurosurgeon with a heart of pure gold. I have to say he is one of the most intense men I have ever had the pleasure of reading since Christian, Gideon and Kellan. The way that his vulnerabilities were slowly exposed and divulged throughout the novel was brilliant, and the vulnerable desperation he exuded to attain Lili’s love was melancholic and stunning to watch unfold. Their love was challenging and realistic and felt palpable. I absolutely loved that this strong, gorgeously dominating man with a dozen different aspects to his character, was so gentle. He is a man riddled to the core by the fears and scars of his past that still pervade his present, and they shone through so poignantly, that it was heartbreaking.

“Baby, I want to sleep with you.’ His voice softened. “This isn’t about sex. This is about sleeping…with you…in our bed, just sleeping, no talking. Just silence, me listening to your soft breaths. That’s truth.”

Dr. Sexy, Dr. Playful, Dr. Affectionate. Dr intense. Whichever personality he exuded he was completely possessive in nature toward Lili. But, not in an attempt to smother or be an overbearing burden on her, but merely because he is intensely captivated and consumed by the deep emotions and feelings he has developed toward her.

While the connection between these two characters was brilliant and intense, the sexy banter that shone through lighter moments was just as seductive and well written.

His shirt hung open. He folded his arms across his chest and casually leaned against the wall, studying me like the MRI images he methodically memorised before each surgery. “You moved?” His lips parted into a half grin, and he shook his head disapprovingly. “You took too long.”
“You put clothes on.” “You might need some new clothes.” I smiled.
“You’re fucking beautiful.”

The secondary characters are also brilliant and worth a mention. Asher, Sierra and Guy are just as enthralling as the protagonists and do not detract from Chase and Lili’s story, but enhance it.  Sierra in particular stole many moments and is seriously one of the best secondary characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. This a character who had me in constant tears of laughter.

“Fine, you’re forgiven, but the jury is still out on Dr.  Fucknuts. Speaking of – still waiting. How was it? Should I call him Dr. Crowbar? When they are insanely hot it’s a flip of the coin whether they actually know how to use the damn thing, so which is it? Please say you scored heads?”

Beautifully Awake is a gorgeously intense read, one filled to the brim with angst and fiercely strong characters that will simply melt your heart. And one that I could not possibly fault in any way.

After reaching the last page and that dreaded ‘100%’ on my Kindle, I was left in awe. Literally. This is one book that I immediately wanted to go back to the very beginning of and read all over again. This is such a flawlessly written novel and it is almost impossible to recognise the work of two different authors – it is just that seamless and fluent.

This book is an incredible mix of perfect characters, a captivating and heartbreaking love story and tumultuous events that will make your heart beat right out of your chest. It is the intensely seductive writing that is infused with the lust and passion these characters share that makes Beautifully Awake one of the most beautifully poetic novels I have read.

Excerpt :

“Baby, I want to sleep with you.” His voice softened. “This isn’t about sex. This is about sleeping … with you … in our bed, just sleeping, no talking. Just silence, me listening to your soft breaths. That’s truth.” And once again this man had completely disarmed me with words alone. “See you soon, baby.”

Silence filled my ear. I turned and dropped my phone on the bed.

“You’re not going to tell him, huh?” Sierra raised her eyebrows and frowned.

“I don’t know, but I’m definitely not ready tonight.”

“This thing with Dr. Hot-as-Balls is serious, isn’t it?”

I couldn’t help but nod. My gut told me she wasn’t wrong.

About the Authors

Yep. That’s an “s.” There are two of us!

We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.

It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.

So you can easily find us at 4 o’clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).

When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.

Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?

Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.

So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!
