Review & Author Interview: ONE TO HOLD – TIA LOUISE

ONE TO HOLD By Tia Louise

WARNING: Mature themes, strong language and sexual content. Recommended for adult readers (18+) only!

Derek Alexander is an ex-Marine, ex-cop, and the top investigator in his field. Melissa Jones is a small-town girl trying to escape her troubled past.

When the two intersect in a bar in Arizona, their sexual chemistry is off the charts. But what is revealed during their “one week stand” only complicates matters.

Because she’ll do everything in her power to get away from the past, but he’ll do everything he can to hold her.

Standalone, M/F, HEA.

Melissa Jones is a young a woman desperately trying to escape a past that is continually tormenting and pervading her life. Finding herself in Scottsdale, Arizona at a Spa retreat with her best friend for brief escapism, she attempts to heal her very raw wounds. One night she finds herself sitting alone in the hotel bar and from across the room captures the stunning gaze of a tall, dark and dangerously sexy man.

Ex Marine and former Cop turned investigator, Derek Alexander, notices Melissa the instant she walks into the room. Unable to resist the electricity that instantly sparks between them, he approaches her and one night of unadulterated passion ensues. But Derek and Melissa soon realise that one night isn’t enough to quench their desire. And so begins their one week stand with no strings attached. But what happens when the week comes to a close and the connection that burns between them only intensifies? And what if the deep secrets they are both harbouring, the ones that threaten to tear them apart, are the very things that bring them unexpectedly together?

One To Hold is quite simply an incredible debut novel that threads together the delicate strings of two very intense and incredible characters against the backdrop of an all-consuming and incredibly sensual love story.

Tia Louise has created one of the most devastatingly sexy alpha males. Derek Alexander is the decadently sensual man of your dreams. He is an incredibly enigmatic man and redefines ‘tall dark and handsome’. A former Marine, and Ex-Cop, Derek is relentless in protecting and seeks out the vulnerabilities within Melissa, and attempts to soothe her over the time they share together. As their encounters intensify over their week together, I absolutely loved that Louise allows the reader to delve into all the elements of his character. His passionate side, brooding intensity and his gentle and incredibly affectionate side all shine beautifully through the writing. The depth of his character displayed, makes him an incredibly infectious and captivating hero that literally steals your heart. He is also such a sensual man who has quite a way with words. But, it is not always his words that will melt you, but his demeanour toward Melissa – which can be downright sexy.

“Good,” he said in a thick voice before covering my mouth with his. Mine opened quickly, drawing him in. Our tongues entwined before his lips moved to my jaw then down my neck. “I thought about you all day.” His breath whispered across my skin, and I couldn’t stop a surge of desire low in my stomach. “Will you let me have you here?”
“Yes,” I barely spoke, and he dropped to his knees.

Melissa is such an endearing heroine and exudes such strength despite being somewhat broken in spirit. She has been living in a nightmare for so long, suffering from the torment her past continually causes. I loved that she was reserved and apprehensive in allowing her resolve to waiver around Derek. She instantaneously recognises that this man has the capacity and power to consume her completely. Despite this, we follow her on a very tumultuous and gut-wrenching journey, as she comes to accept that Derek has slowly worked his way into a heart she thought would be irreparably broken and untrusting.

Passion – So many books I have read attempt to describe this and the way it consumes the characters. It is not often that a book consumes you so completely and throws you into the narrative world, where the passion is palpable and the connection that binds two characters together is something you can actually feel from the words on the page. One To Hold does this, and does it so brilliantly. The writing flows so beautifully it is purely seductive and sensual at times. This book contains the most intensely passionate love scenes, which are stunningly vivid in depicting the connection that sparks between Derek and Melissa and sizzles right off the page!

“Goodnight,” I said leaning forward to kiss his cheek, cutting off any further discussion. Just as I was about to pull back, he caught the back of my neck and pulled my mouth to his for a better kiss. I didn’t resist, allowing his soft lips to part mine. I placed my palms on his strong shoulders, bracing myself as our tongues entwined. His kiss turned hungry, and my mouth matched his pace. I wanted him to lift me again. I craved the connection of our bodies as much as he did.

The book is written from Melissa’s perspective and not only does Tia Louise allow the reader to delve deeply into this young woman’s life and the heartache and melancholy that pervades her world, you cannot help but feel such a strong sense of empathy for Melissa. You simply crave the snippets of Derrick we are privy to through Melissa’s eyes, slowly discovering more and more about this mysterious and enigmatic man. Then right at the very end in the Epilogue, the author allows us to delve into Derrick’s world.

One To Hold is one of the most beautiful and intensely sensual stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is simply flawless and brilliant. This is a stunning depiction of the all-consuming connection that ignites between two people, and imbues perfect amalgamation of angst, intensity and the most sensual love scenes. I cannot highly recommend this book enough. For a debut novel Tia Louise has me waiting impatiently for what she has in store next.

Five Brilliant STARS

Favourite Quotes:

“I swear, when I saw you in that night in the bar, all I wanted was to take you from him. I wanted you to be mine.”

‘He lowered his face to gently kiss me, and right then it was inescapable. The seemingly endless kiss he pressed, soft lips lingering against mine, tongue lightly touching my tongue, sealed it for me. He was everything I wanted. He was safe with me, I felt safe with him, and I wanted him to hold me forever so badly.’

TIA LOUISE – Author of the gorgeous debut Novel ONE TO HOLD

Thank you so much Tia for talking with me today. I absolutely loved everything about ONE TO HOLD, including the stunning characters (particularly the very gorgeous Derek).

Thank you so much, Louisa! I have to confess, I developed a book-crush on Derek myself. 🙂

Tell me when you first began writing?

I’ve been writing my entire career, since I started out in journalism. Before it was news, now it’s fiction. And I love it! This is my debut adult romance.

What inspired Derek and Melissa’s incredible love story?

I’ve been to Scottsdale recently, and I loved the desert. And I’ve always been a lover of romance and high-stakes stories with a twist. I guess I just put all of those things together into this book.

Where is the strangest place that a particular scene for a novel has come to you?

I don’t know if it’s strange… Once when I was out jogging, I was two miles from home or any piece of paper or digital recorder, and I had a “breakthrough” idea… But I had to keep repeating it in my head for two miles back to the house so I wouldn’t forget it—LOL!

What is your approach to writing? Do you have any quirky rituals before or after you begin writing?

I don’t have any rituals—other than sitting down every day and writing. I heard an interview with Roald Dahl’s daughter in which she said her father’s gift to her was that discipline. Even if you don’t feel like it, sit down and write every day. The story will come.

Your next upcoming release ONE TO KEEP is about the sexy romance that ensues between Patrick Knight and Elaine (both from ONE TO HOLD). Can you share anything about what we can expect from their story?

ONE TO KEEP covers more ground and more time than ONE TO HOLD. It begins about a month before the events of ONE TO HOLD and extends another month after. The biggest difference is between the heroes. Where Derek Alexander is very “in control” (until he meets Melissa), Patrick is very “You only live once” … until he meets Elaine. 🙂

Are you working on any other projects? Can you tell us about them?

I haven’t started anything new, but I have a fresh idea that came to me as I was finishing up the epilogue of ONE TO KEEP! It’s going to be a novella covering Derek and Melissa’s wedding and exploring a situation that occurs in ONE TO KEEP further… (no spoilers!) Plus I love Derek’s condo. I want to have him & Melissa back there at least one night. *wink*

What is one interesting fact about you that readers don’t already know?

I’m allergic to red food coloring. Seriously! My whole face gets hot and itchy if I have it, and then I have to take a Benadryl.

Quirky Q’s:

Most embarrassing moment?

When I fell flat on my stomach in the middle of the parade grounds at college… never get over it.

Current Book Boyfriend?

Derek or Patrick… Derek or Patrick… hmm… 🙂

Favourite sound?

The ocean. J

One word you love?

One word you hate?

I quit.

Guilty pleasure?

Truffles. Always truffles…

Patrick or Derek (Only 1 – no cheating!)

Oh no!!! You saw my first answer—LOL! Uhhh… probably Derek. But I don’t know. Patrick is so fun! Ugh! (LOL!)

Thank you so much Tia for taking the time to talk with me, I will be waiting anxiously (as I know a lot of your fans will be) for the release of ONE TO KEEP! Xoxox

Thank YOU so much for having me! I can’t wait to share ONE TO KEEP with everyone! ❤

About the Author:

Tia Louise is a former journalist, world-traveler, and collector of beautiful men (who inspire ALL of her stories… *wink*)—turned wife, mommy, and novelist. It’s possible she has a slight truffle addiction. And she will never look at a family restroom the same way again.
