CAGE By Harper Sloan

Greg Cage was born to protect. While growing up, he was his mother and sister’s shield against the world… until he failed. For the last decade, he has carried that guilt and need for vengeance around… until it was stripped from him. Now, with his best friend getting married and no longer needing his protection, he is even more lost, completely adrift, and desperate for some control. All he has ever known was how to protect: his family, his friends, and his country. Can he go against everything he has ever known, and give up that control?

Melissa Larson will never let anyone hold the reins in her life. She has been the rock in her family for more years than she can remember, and the fight to keep them together is her main priority right now. She has always been fiercely independent and proud. The last thing she will ever do is ask for someone else’s help. But when that choice is out of her control, forcing her to rely on others to save her and her family, and pick up the pieces that are left, will she be able to let someone else be her strength?

The second Greg locks eyes with Meli, he knows that she is someone he needs. Someone he craves. Meli knew the second she met Greg that he would be nothing but trouble and heartache. Her life takes an unexpected turn, and that bitch Fate is back to wreak more havoc on another member of the Corps family.

All hell breaks loose, leaving Greg no choice but to call in a favor. He hooks back up with his old friend Braxxon Breaker from the Breakneck MC. Together, they make sure that nothing threatens anyone Greg loves again.

CAGE is a complete story with a HEA.

Greg Cage has suffered a great loss in his life that leaves him with the weight of misplaced guilt on his shoulders, and a heartbreak that will never leave him. As those around him fight their way through to find love, Greg just engages in meaningless sex and his relentless pursuit to seek revenge on the man who took away a loved one. It is not until he locks eyes on the beautiful Melissa that a fire ignites within him and the new realisation that he has to make her his becomes his new driving focus.

Firstly, let me just say that Axel was one the best love stories, imbuing ALL the beautiful qualities I seek within a book. Strong, dominating men who stop at nothing to protect their love, and an equally strong heroine, add in some fantastically weaved angst and some shocking twists that make my heart race and you have Axel. I did not think it would be possible for Harper Sloan to top that for me. She truly surprised me though, by creating a beautiful second instalment that left me reeling almost as much as Axel did.

CAGE is an intense, passionate and heartbreaking story weaved together with strong, passionate characters and beautiful kinetically paced writing that flows beautifully.

From the moment that Greg and Melissa lock eyes the intense attraction they both share emanates from the page. It is the slow seductive build up in their relationship, however that is so fantastically weaved together, it leaves you consumed and utterly captivated. The development of their relationship was simply perfect.

Melissa (Beauty) was such a headstrong, independent woman who exudes such determination in her reliance on herself. She is untrusting of others and to watch her slowly lose the fear she holds so tightly, was utterly endearing. It is Greg and the intense all-consuming love that they share that really allows the scars of their past to slowly fade away. I loved the way in which both Greg and Melissa complemented each other so fantastically, but make no mistake, while Harper Sloan has created a beautifully broken heroine; she is both fierce and resilient also.

Moving on to the devastatingly perfect Greg. I do not even know where to really begin. He is a big, dominating wall of strength, yet he is a beautifully damaged man who seeks love and yearns to find that one person he can share his life with and protect and guard. He is a man with a heart of gold and his relentless in his approach to making Melissa his, instantly won me over.

The utter despair these characters suffer in relation to dealing with their feelings is also a contrasting theme that runs through out and is so tangible and heartbreaking.
Harper Sloan has written an incredible second instalment in this amazing series (which I am pretty much obsessed with). She is also a writer who can entice the secondary characters slowly into your heart, whilst not taking away the focus from the hero and heroine of this story.

CAGE is a beautiful love story that embodies the strengths that love can provide and the ways in which it can indeed prevail. I highly recommend this entire series.

The next book in the series is Beck, and it’s safe to say that it will be a heartbreaking and emotional story. And I just know I am going to love the angst Harper Sloan is going to throw my way with this book. But I will say that it is the wait for Maddox and Emmy’s story that is going to be slow and painful.

About Harper Sloan

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed ‘Estrogen Ocean’, much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her ereader attached. As an ex-reviewer and blogger, Harper’s passion for reading runs deep. It wasn’t until ‘Axel’ decided to take up residence that she realized her true calling.

She started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn’t take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
