Losing Hope By Colleen Hoover

In the follow-up to Colleen Hoover’s #1 New York Times bestseller Hopeless, the charming and irresistible Dean Holder tells the passionate story that has melted thousands of hearts.
In Hopeless, Sky left no secret unearthed, no feeling unshared, and no memory forgotten, but Holder’s past remained a mystery.
Still haunted by the little girl he let walk away, Holder has spent his entire life searching for her in an attempt to finally rid himself of the crushing guilt he has felt for years. But he could not have anticipated that the moment they reconnect, even greater remorse would overwhelm him…
Sometimes in life, if we wish to move forward, we must first dig deep into our past and make amends. In Losing Hope, bestselling author Colleen Hoover reveals what was going on inside Holder’s head during all those hopeless moments—and whether he can gain the peace he desperately needs
Losing Hope is the follow-up to Hopeless and tells the story of Holder’s endless search for hope and the relentless guilt he feels of the loss of those dear to him. We see the entire story retold from the eyes of Holder. You are there for every defining moment in Holder’s life after the loss of Les, his discovery of Sky and the moments he begins to slowly release the guilt that has haunted him.
“ I lift away from her cheek and look down at her. “Thank you.” She smiles. “For what?” For being alive, I think to myself. ”
At 3.54am in the morning, when I had awfully wet hair from the tears sliding down the sides of my face and my hands were freezing cold and sore from holding my kindle up, I felt so elated that I had not waited any longer to read Losing Hope. When a book is written so well, and each word carries and instils so much power, it really shows you what reading is all about.
Colleen Hoover is an Author who writes such powerful, angst filled books. Books filled to the brim with high emotions, melancholy situations, but most importantly her work feels so realistic and so consuming. Her writing pulls you into the narrative world, allows you to empathise with these characters and fall in love with every element of their personality and strength.
There were some incredibly humorous and witty moments weaved into this beautiful and heartbreaking story, and I LOVED the fact that the book Sky read to Holder, was Layken & Will’s story from Slammed (I’m not sure if I noticed that in Hopeless).
Losing Hope kept in line with Hopeless in terms of the unconventional structure of chapters. In all honesty when I got to 74% I did not like the choppy, kinetic pace of the chapters that were intercepted by Holder’s letters to Les. But once I reached the 90% mark, it all made perfect sense that this book was perfectly written in so many ways, and those short choppy chapters that were intercepted by Holder’s deepest thoughts to Les, were so fitting and significant to convey the turbulent emotions he goes through over the course of the novel.
This is a book that is highly emotional, intense and thought provoking, you can’t help but wonder constantly about the situations, decisions and repercussions that these characters face. Losing Hope also adds a sense of completion to the story of Holder and Sky. There are a lot of details that come to light that the reader did not know about in the previous book. To have two different sides of such a compelling and heartbreaking story of loss, the search for love, peace and the power of forgiveness is incredible. This was a stunningly written book, that as I said could not have been any more perfectly written than it was. I am so glad that I had the pleasure to read such a powerful and emotional story and cannot express how highly I recommend this series, as well as ALL Colleen Hoover books to every reader out there.
I know I have said this before but it just happens that my favourite books are written from the male protagonists’ POV. I just love seeing a story retold with their commentary, and Holder’s was no exception.
“ For the next few minutues, we’re completely lost in what feels like sheer perfection. Time has completely stopped, and all I’m thinking about while we kiss is how this is what saves people. ”
