His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.
At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loves to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten–even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets down her guard down, the ghost’s of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.
On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?
Escaping Reality instantly catapults the reader into the life of Lara – now living her life as Amy Bensen, and begins with her on the run from her current alias in New York. Under the strict and urgent instructions of her mysterious ‘handler’, Amy is forced to instantly relocate to Denver to ensure she escapes the constant threats that have been lurking around her. Threats from her past, that she thought she could finally escape.
Meeting the enigmatic Liam Stone, is something completely unexpected. Whilst the two meet at the airport where a connection sparks between them as their eyes connect, it is on the flight to Denver that Amy feels the instant pull to Liam, that ignites into what will become so much more.
Amy has learnt to be self sufficient keeping a safe distance between herself and those who surround her in order to survive. She lives in a world of complete isolation, with no true feelings and relationships. As the connection she shares with Liam develops in intensity and their bond begins to extend the mere physical, is Liam everything he appears and will Amy be able to evade the constant threats that pervade her world? Or will finally allowing herself to rely on another, and be loved be Amy’s biggest mistake?
I am a huge fan of Lisa Renee Jones, and no one writes suspense quite like her. Her incredible writing pulls you into this story, immerses you deeply in this tale of mystery, love, passion and heartbreak and leaves you on edge in anticipation.
Escaping Reality was not at all what I was expecting it to be. These characters were refreshing and the instant connectedness they share was one of the many beautiful elements of this story. The slow trickling of information about Amy’s [Lara’s] previous life, which was divulged slowly throughout the story, was brilliantly written and added to the high level of suspense.
I absolutely adore when writers create strong female protagonists, who exude the utmost strength but at the same time exemplify their fragility and timid nature through their actions. Amy is such a strong, self sufficient young woman, who has been through heart breaking events that have left her living in a dangerous life with no one to rely on.
Liam Stone is every bit the mysterious, gorgeous and talented billionaire recluse he is described to be, and the perfect contrast to Amy’s character. He is also charming and enigmatic, even though his actions and motives appear ambiguous at times. He is a dominant in many ways, and craves to possess and alleviate Amy’s fears, and be the only person who can show her what it feels like to be taken care of again. His dominant and overbearing nature is outweighed by his compassion and sweet, yet intense affections toward Amy. Yes, Liam is one of those perfectly written male protagonists.
The level of sexual chemistry between these two characters is intense, electric and also fantastically written. Lisa Renee Jones explores the deeper underlying meaning behind two very broken and isolated characters and the way in which they come together on common grounds of their yearning for love, possession, contentment and stability.
There is a cliff-hanger and it packs quite the punch. By the end I was left feeling anxious and craving more answers. This was a phenomenal book nonetheless, that is a brilliant account of a young woman who no longer knows what it is like to lead a safe, consistent life with contentment. She has lost everyone around her and only knows how to survive alone. Escaping Reality completely immersed me within narrative world and captivated and consumed me until the very end.
I always find it so difficult to write a review for a book that I truly love and feel such a deep connection with. It almost feels as though every word, sentence and description I provide, just simply does not do the book justice. That is how I feel right now. There is not a single negative thing I could possibly say about this book. The characters were perfectly written, the plot amazingly structured and impactful. The high level of suspense was simply captivating and consuming, keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation. This is one of those books that is just simply perfect in my book.
The only thing that I am wishing right now, is that I had the sequel in my hands, because that cliff-hanger at the end of Escaping Reality, left me clutching my Kindle in a gasp at 3.40am.
Another MUST Read and new addition to the ‘Favourites List’ that I highly recommend!
5 Spectacular Stars!
