Eversea (Eversea #1) By Natasha Boyd
An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.
A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.
A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.
When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her married and much older director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.
Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided … and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.
Twenty-one year old Keri Ann has lived in Butler Cove all her life and still reeling with the death of her parents. She is alone and has put her life on hold temporarily, while her older brother Joey finishes Med School. Jack Eversea is the gorgeous twenty-six year old, world famous Hollywood actor who is caught up in a media firestorm as his girlfriend and co-star is caught cheating on him. Needing a reprieve, Jack escapes to Butler Cove where he meets Keri Ann, she is sweet, independent and unlike anyone he has met. As the two continue to bump into one another in the small town, they develop a very quick and intense connection that they continuously fight. After all, Keri Ann is aware that Jack is in Butler Cove indefinitely and will eventually leave for Hollywood, and Jack is well aware Keri Ann is too pure and innocent to be caught up in his world when he has no intention of staying. But as their feelings develop into something much deeper, and fate plays with their hearts, they both realise the pull between them might be a stronger force that might just be impossible to keep denying. But as Jack’s past threatens his hopes for his future with Keri Ann, are some risk really worth it?
In all honesty, I am a very quick reader. That is partly
(okay mostly) because I can be very impatient to know what happens, especially when I am deeply in love with the story being told. With Eversea, I found myself slowly savouring every chapter. I just did not want this book to end! This story and these characters were so consuming and well written.
This story for me was very reminiscent of Effortless by S.C Stephens – which is one of my favourite books. It might have been due to the fact that there were deeper emotional secrets Jack was hiding in terms of his past, that he trusts no one with, but expresses to Keri Ann. It might also be because Natasha Boyd exemplifies the strengths and weaknesses of these characters so beautifully well.
Keri Ann is such a likeable heroine; she is strong, independent and self sufficient. She is also broken and very fearful to become reliant on anyone other than herself. Jack is just incredible! I truly fell in love with his character, while his decisions were at times frustrating, you can really see his character develop because of Keri Ann and the time they share together.
I absolutely loved that the final chapter was written in Jack’s POV, it was fantastic to finally gain insight into his thoughts and discover what exactly occurred through his eyes.
This was a truly captivating and endearing tale of pure love and the heartbreak that ensues along with it. There is a cliff-hanger at the end of the novel, but I truly loved it. It ended on a note that revealed where these characters stand and leaves the space wide open for a highly anticipated continuation of Jack and Keri Ann’s story – which will be seen in Forever, Jack (Eversea #2) – released November 2013.
I loved the way this entire book was written, it was poetic and eloquently beautiful and the symbolism of the Turtles was so perfectly entwined within the story. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I have a new book to add to the ‘Favourites List’, and a long impatient wait for the sequel!
5 beautiful Stars.
